MINI MONDAYS EVERY OTHER WEEK.

NEXT SESSION - 3rd March

Monday 17th February

We were joined today by some older siblings as it was half term. We made fluttering butterflies - the younger children decorated the butterflies and the adults and older siblings worked hard on the fluttering mechanism.

Monday 3rd February

Today we sang dinosaur songs and moved like dinosaurs. We used paper plates (of course!), stickers and paint, to make our own colourful dinosaurs.

Monday 20th January

As we are getting close to Lunar New Year the children heard the story of how the animals all raced to be given the honour of having a year named after them in the Chinese calendar. This year will be the Year of the Snake and so the activities today were all based on snakes and Chinese lanterns.

Monday 6th January

Brrrr! It was very cold today so we made snowmen!

Monday 9th December

As this was the last session before Christmas we sang Christmas songs, made cards and made decorations with paper plates and salt dough.

Happy Christmas to everyone who attends Mini Mondays - see you in January!

Monday 25th November

It is getting close to Christmas and everyone is very busy helping Santa to sort out all of the presents for the good children. ....well, almost everyone!

Mrs Claus heard a lot of noise coming from the sleigh room and found 5 cheeky elves jumping on the sleigh! She had to call Santa and he told the elves not to jump on the sleigh anymore.

Our children today sang about the cheeky elves and made elf hats and elf door hangings.

Monday 11th November

There were a lot of 'cheeky monkeys' in the library today, singing and jumping around!

Monday 28th October

Today we were getting ready for Diwali by making paper plate diya lamps. We were also preparing for Halloween by making boingy spiders and icing Halloween biscuits.

Monday 14th October

Today we began by singing The Wheels On The Train Go Round And Round. Then the children and their adults made some very professional looking trains using egg cartons and cardboard tubes. Two of the library Trustees also got involved!

Monday 30th September

As the weather has been so wet, there have been lots of slugs and snails around, so we decided to make some happy, colourful snails today.

Monday 16th September

Today we sang about caterpillars and all of our art today was caterpillar based......we'll be creating snails next time!

Monday 2nd September

Ice cream was today's theme, so we began by singing 'Five Ice Creams In An Ice Cream Shop' and then used puffy paint to make our own delicious looking ice cream cones - complete with sprinkles, of course!

Monday 19th August

Today's session began with a reading of the Gingerbread Man story, with everyone joining in with 'Run, run, run as fast as you can,

You can't catch me, I'm the Gingerbread Man!'

Monday 5th August

By popular demand, today's activities were based on the well-loved TV character, Bluey. The children made Bluey masks, coloured Bluey pictures and listened to a Bluey story. Thanks to all adults for helping their little ones with the trickier parts of mask making!

Monday 22nd July

Activities today were based on the story 'Mr Seahorse', by Eric Carle., which we began the session by reading.

The children made paper tissue covered seahorses and beautiful sun catchers. There was also the opportunity - as ever- for personal creativity.

Our next session, on August 5th, will be based on Bluey - by popular demand!

Again, through the holidays, older siblings are welcome and suitable activities will be provided.

Monday 8th July

Today, our teddies came with us to Mini Mondays as we sang teddy bear songs and made our own teddy bear puppets. At the end of the session, we all went outside for our teddy bear's picnic.

Sadly, today we said goodbye to one of our regular attendees as O is off to big school in September. We all wish her good luck and lots of happiness at school.

Monday 24th June

'I want someone to buy me a pony, Jig jog, jig jog, jig jog jig' was our starting point today as we made our own colourful hobby horses. It was wonderful to see some of the children 'riding' them home!

Monday 10th June

Fantastic cutting, painting and sticking skills were on show today in our art based on 'Twinkle Twinkle, Little Star' and other star and moon based rhymes.

Monday 13th May

'Three Little Men In A Flying Saucer' was the inspiration for today's artwork at the library, with the children making their own flying saucers, complete with aliens inside.

Monday 29th April

In honour of the recent wet weather - and despite the lovely sunshine today! - we made little rain clouds, coloured rainy day pictures and designed welly boots and sang rainy day songs. You can see some of our work in the library near the computers.

Monday 15th April

Five little cherry trees standing in a row........today's song told of the cherry trees waiting for the April showers to help them to grow and then we made our own cherry blossom trees full of beautiful pink blossoms.

If you are in the Library, look for our Mini Mondays 'April Showers' poster behind the computers.

Monday 18th March

A Happy Easter to everyone!

Today we sang about Sleeping (Easter ) Bunnies and made Easter crowns with lots of Easter themed stickers. As usual, colouring and painting were also on offer.

Look at our beautiful crowns .....

Monday 4th March

Lots of roaring lions at Mini Mondays today!

Monday 19th February

We made our own shakers today.........

.........and used them in our singing session, which was great fun!

Monday 12th February 2024 - A Half Term Special Session - Making Windmills

It was hard work making our windmills and getting them to work -

.... but we got them to work in the end!

Monday 5th February 2024

Today we had a lovely group of twelve, making dragons for Lunar New Year (starting on 10th Feb). As it will be the Year of the Dragon, our rhyme was '5 Little Dragons, Learning How to Fly' and we made our own colourful dragons.

Monday 22nd January 2024

We had another lovely big group again this morning. We sang "The Wheels On The Bus" and made our own buses, complete with moving wheels, opening door, ringing bell and lots of passengers. As usual, there was the opportunity for painting, sticking and colouring too.

Monday 8th January 2024

Today it was cold and frosty so we made snowmen and sang "I'm A Little Snowman, Look At Me!" We were joined today by some of our past members as they had a Teacher Training Day - it was lovely to see them again!

Monday 18th December 2023

'Five Christmas Trees In A Garden Shop' was today's inspiration, so our art was all connected with Christmas trees. We even decorated some tree biscuits as our Christmas treat.

Monday 4th December 2023

Today we made penguin christmas cards and sang See the Little Penguins Sleeping Til It's Nearly Noon'.

Monday 20th November 2023

Today we helped Humpty Dumpty when he fell off the wall. Although 'All the King's horses, and all the King's men, couldn't put Humpty together again' .....we managed it because we had lots of plasters!

Monday 6th November 2023

Our art today was based on 'I'm A Little Teapot'. Once again we began by joining in singing our action song, then we used different sticking and gluing techniques to make our own tipping teapots..... they even had a little surprise inside to take home!

The session ended with gathering again for a drink and a couple of songs.

It was lovely to see so many little ones taking part today.

Next Mini Mondays will be 20th November.

Monday 23rd October 2023

Today we started by singing 'Autumn Leaves Are Falling Down' and looking at the beautiful colours of autumn leaves. Then we used our leaves for making spiky hedgehogs and leaf printing, and we also did some hedgehog colouring and stencilling. We ended our lovely session by singing a song about our little hedgehogs.

Monday 9th October 2023

As it is now the time for more spiders inside our houses, and we are getting close to Halloween, we based our art on Incey Wincey Spider and Little Miss Muffet. The children enjoyed singing along with the songs and bouncing their boingy spiders.

Monday 25th September 2023

Today we based our art on Baa Baa Black Sheep and Mary Had A Little Lamb.

Monday 11th Sept 2023

Today's art was based on the story 'The Great Monster Hunt' by Norbert Landa.

Duck is woken up by a strange noise under his bed. He asks his friends for help and wise owl devises a plan to catch the 'monster'.
